The Minuteman National Park in Lexington, Lincoln and Concord commemorates some of the decisive battles of the American Revolution.

In season (starting in April, but check the website here), go to the Visitor Center in Lexington to get a map and see its videos and exhibitions, then take the 5 miles trail.

Otherwise, all year long from sunrise to sunset, access the trail from many parking lots along Route 2A.

You’ll then be along fields, marshes, ponds and forests typical of the Massachusetts countryside; you’ll find explanatory panels on the different stages of the battle and on the life of the countryside in the 18th century; you’ll also see historical buildings, open in season when they are staffed by actors in costumes.

On the other side of the road, longhorns, old tractors still in use, fields surrounded by stone walls.

You are about 30 minutes from Boston if the traffic is fluid, but it’s another world and with a little imagination, another time.

A bit further in Concord, there’s another Visitor Center not far from the Old North Bridge where the battle began on April 17, 1775. Here too, you’ll find trails and historical houses.

Finally, to discover more places to visit in or around Boston, see the Other outings page on Boston.citywalks.space.

Have a good day!
